Calculating a Worker's Noise Exposure

To correctly work out the amount of noise a worker is exposed to, you need to know two things:

  • Sound Level at each location
  • How long is spent at each location

With your knowledge of these two parameters for each place where the worker spends any time you can work out the daily noise exposure (for the USA this is usually the Time Weighted Average, or TWA; for the EU this is usually the LEP,d or LEX8hr).

Using our online application, you simply select the measurements to include (ie. those that apply to the worker in question) and enter the amount of time that the worker is exposed.
